Some Happy Day” directed by Catherine Hill presented in partnership with Encore+

A homeless woman in desperate search of a better life meets a social worker with troubles of her own.

Some Happy Day was made with — and in — the community in which the story is set, with many of the background actors having lived experience of surviving without a home. The film was inspired by the director/writer Catherine Hill’s twenty years of working as a social worker with rough sleepers.

A sensitive, gritty portrayal of the shadows we all carry and the courage it takes to find our way through.

It is estimated that in Greater Perth, 1200 people are street homeless, with over 50 of these rough sleepers dying every year. 25–41% of this marginalised and forgotten population are First Nations Peoples.

Some Happy Day provides an authentic narrative that contextualises and challenges the often generalised idea of what it’s like to be homeless. A moving and painfully beautiful story that humanises homelessness. Brave, authentic and confronting, it’s a story that needed telling.
